Librarians must create their future within the health sector.

This was the message from Leo Kearns, CEO, Royal College of Physicians in Ireland, when he launched the new Health Sciences Library Group report, Irish Health Libraries: New Directions recently. Librarians must engage with their colleagues in other professions and in
management areas of the health service and they must initiate and nurture that engagement by understanding the priorities of frontline and related services.

Kearns described the research report as an important foundation from which he
suggested the library profession could move forward and he drew a comparison
between librarians and clinicians – a group that over recent years have repositioned
themselves successfully though their contribution and development of the
National Clinical Programmes.
