ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2007
February 15th – 16th 2007
Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone, Co. Meath
Teaching, Learning and Promotion Skills for Health Care Librarians
As Health Care Librarians, the opportunities for us to demonstrate the value of our professional knowledge have never been greater. Many of these opportunities are extensions of what might once have been described as our traditional role, and have enabled us to both raise the profile of our work, and foster collaboration with professional colleagues.
For the most part, we have embraced these opportunities, which can now among others include
- Structuring learning materials, both print and electronic
- Teaching and/or training groups of people in information skills and information literacy
- Learning how to present material to different groups
- Understanding how to effectively promote and market the role and resources of the physical (as well as virtual) library.
While we have not been slow to respond to these opportunities, our response is not always as informed and as effective as we might wish, principally, as a result of our having received little (if any) formal training in teaching and marketing skills
Our fifth annual conference, aims to be a highly participative learning experience, which will enable all who attend, to explore and acquire some of the principles of teaching, learning and marketing, which can then be directly applied within each of our workplaces.
