Applications are now being invited for a four-year PhD scholarship in Health Literacy which is to be conducted at UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School commencing in September 2008.

The study will seek to measure health literacy in Ireland and assess the impact of culture and of language on this area. Developing an instrument for measuring the economic implications of health literacy will also form part of the research.

The Minister for Health and Children, Mary Harney T.D., has announced a public consultation exercise on the proposed Health Information Bill which will deal with the collection, use, sharing, storage, disclosure and transfer of personal health information as well as the rights of individuals to control and access their health information.
